GvsB.5 Art Preview – Danielle & Dustin
August 10, 2011

Before she left for New Zealand, Danielle Petach sent us a few photos of her finished half of the two collaborative pieces she is doing with artist Dustin del Giudice (Bishop, CA). We heard a rumor that Dustin is working on special iron and acrylic “cases” that can be hung together or separately with Danielle’s paintings. Danielle will be back from NZ just in time to see the finished pieces for the opening on Aug 19th. Needless to say, we’re getting pretty excited.

GvsB.5 Art Preview – Stepanka & Carl E. Smith
August 10, 2011

We just got a snapshot of what’s coming from Prague for the Girls VS Boys collaboration show. The work Carl E. Smith and Stepanka Peterka are producing together is spectacular.  ”Freedom Known” is the first of a series they are creating and we are excited to have this first piece available August 19th. The rest of the series will most likely be revealed sometime this Fall at CES/D. http://www.cesfineart.com/ TBA.

Current Show Opening Party Re-cap: Drew v. Karlee
July 31, 2011

Sunny day in Laguna today… currently sweeping up the sand that somehow accumulated in more amounts than normal on our gallery floor last night… guess that’s what happens when you have a packed art show with two surf artists, their fans, ocean-inspired art and a beach across the street (where Drew found time to paddle out 30 mins. before the show, by the way).

In the AR4T fourth installment of Girls Vs. Boys: The Summer of Love opening party on July 29, Drew Brophy and Karlee Mackie put on a bright show bubbling with underwater and amphibious characters on both canvases and surfboards. Karlee: “I just became fascinated with snails!” Quite impressively, she knows her facts: they have been around for 60 million years. They live up to age 25… Her 12-by-12-inch Two Snails framed the door where people gathered to watch artists of all ages doodle on a board Drew set up as a “canvas” for the night. It was definitely an interactive show for all ages.

Drew’s new characters Chomper and Frank, along with Death Tube and Hang Man, is all new art that will be here through the next 2 weeks. Silent auction bids are still being accepted on the pair of AERIAL7 headphones Drew and Karlee handpainted together – proceeds go to VH1 Save the Music — bidding goes through the last day of the show, Aug. 13, 2011. Won’t say who the highest bidder is as of today, but they’re going home with custom headphones for a super great deal…unless someone comes in and outbids them!…

Thanks to AERIAL7 for spanning the seas to bring these two prolific artists together and a great after-party at Ocean Avenue Brewery that shut the bar down!

Sticky’s Dancing in Japan 30 x 36 original sold at his opening of Girls vs Boys in Laguna June, 2011. Here’s what he wrote about the piece…

Sticky: “This painting means a lot to a lot of different people. I had the amazing opportunity of traveling to Tokyo, Japan for my piece in the JLA art show and can say that it was hands-down the best trip I’ve ever been on. There were two biggest highlights of my trip: being able to show people across the world my art, and tagging in the the streets of Tokyo with fellow artist Jamie Lynn. I met so many unique people and saw so many incredible things that I was inspired upon my return to the States to create a new painting commemorating my travels. The collage in the background was constructed from actual items I collected while traveling, such as flyers and ticket stubs. All of the tagging on top are the names of all the people involved in the I Am Snowboarding project, and if you look closely you can find Jamie’s famous cat that he tagged himself. The crane also has significant meaning to some of the people who also came on this trip because they had a special encounter with one in a japanese garden and even got crane tattoos when they got home. JLA is Snowboarding.”

TAYLOR GUITARS x TEDDY KELLY
July 25, 2011

Last June Teddy Kelly from the Human Pyramids art collective hustled to complete an art collaboration with Taylor Guitars for the annual Billabong Design For Humanity Charity event. The guitar was up for auction along side other Taylor guitars signed by the like of Foo Fighters, Edward Sharpe, etc.

Proceeds to benefit VH1 Save The Music Foundation. Over the past few months, I’ve been ultra surprised to learn that many people aren’t aware of what the Save The Music Foundation does – I even had one person tell me they thought Save the Music was formed to keep music videos on TV. NO!!

Actually, Save the Music fights the good fight to keep music education in our public school system. As a parent there is nothing more important to me than to keep arts in education.

Anywho… I just came across some photos of the guitars so thought I’d post… better a little late then never. Teddy pretty much rules. You can follow his moves through Human Pyramids.com and Ambiguous.com.

Design for Humanity

I also found a photo of my favorite red carpet PR person all dressed in pink and white and wanted to share. Cheers!
