STORYTELLERS – CHAD HASEGAWA & CHRISTINE RASMUSSEN
November 21, 2011

December is rapidly approaching and so is our holiday show. We are excited to share our writer / artist partnerships and so are releasing a few sneek peeks. We asked San Francisco artist Chad Hasegawa to partner with Duango, CO writer Christine Rasmussen. Torrey & Brian recently had the pleasure of getting a tour of Chad’s studio in SF and got to see one of the murals he did in the Tenderloin National Forest on Ellis. He also has large piece available at The Luggage Store Gallery on market St.

To top it off, on a visit to 941 T&B got to see Chad putting his touch on a Blek le Rat piece that sold for upwards of $45K. Here are the snapshots… stay tuned for his partnership with Christine…

GvsB.5 Art Preview – Sticky & Taylor
August 16, 2011

Just in from Sticky and Taylor Reeve: they’re long-time friends but first-time collaborators with two original pieces coming Friday. Sticky raided his high school scrapbooks for material: “I found some good stuff, stuff I haven’t seen for years. in high school they make you mimic other paintings — stuff I would never do today. One of them is like a Salvador Dali but in my style. On the back it said B plus.” He used this raw material with wheatpaste, markers, acrylic, ballpoint pen and pencil to embellish a vampy green Taylor character (acrylic and paint pens) she painted just for him. The other half of the swap (the other piece in the collab) is a vampire that Sticky painted currently in Taylor’s hands. “We’ve barely talked about our art at all,” says Sticky…which makes it even more interesting!! Both pieces are about 2 feet by 2 feet…come Friday to see!

Sticky’s Dancing in Japan 30 x 36 original sold at his opening of Girls vs Boys in Laguna June, 2011. Here’s what he wrote about the piece…

Sticky: “This painting means a lot to a lot of different people. I had the amazing opportunity of traveling to Tokyo, Japan for my piece in the JLA art show and can say that it was hands-down the best trip I’ve ever been on. There were two biggest highlights of my trip: being able to show people across the world my art, and tagging in the the streets of Tokyo with fellow artist Jamie Lynn. I met so many unique people and saw so many incredible things that I was inspired upon my return to the States to create a new painting commemorating my travels. The collage in the background was constructed from actual items I collected while traveling, such as flyers and ticket stubs. All of the tagging on top are the names of all the people involved in the I Am Snowboarding project, and if you look closely you can find Jamie’s famous cat that he tagged himself. The crane also has significant meaning to some of the people who also came on this trip because they had a special encounter with one in a japanese garden and even got crane tattoos when they got home. JLA is Snowboarding.”

July 20, 2011

AR4T friend Ben Brough recently finished a six foot by six foot mural at an undisclosed location in Huntington Beach, CA and we likey. Recipient of said mural is one lucky bastard.

Lucky for us, Ben’s also got a show coming up next month in Costa Mesa at the Boathouse with Kid Creature and Ozzie Wright put together by Volcom. It’s on August the 18th.

He’s also doing a collaborative art work with his wife Arriana for the final Girls VS Boys show in Laguna at AR4T on August 19th.

Good time to make a visit to the OC.
